Land Acquisition Complete for the ₹59Cr Vallakkadavu Bridge Project

Approval for the detailed project report (DPR) of the proposed Vallakkadavu bridge in Thiruvananthapuram is in its final stages following the completion of land acquisition. According to PWD data obtained via an RTI by activist Ragam Raheem, the project will move to the tendering phase once the DPR is cleared. Delayed since 1999 by administrative and financial bottlenecks, the reconstruction across the Parvathy Puthanar canal received a revised administrative sanction of ₹59.20 crore in January 2026. The original vital bridge—linking the city to the coastal belt, the domestic airport terminal, Beemapally, and Shangumugham—was closed as unsafe in 2022. The temporary bridge currently in use has caused waterflow obstructions and environmental issues.
